5 Things We Should Have Learned Way
Before The Fall Of Allen Iverson
On the court Allen Iverson was a unique talent with out peer.
We have never seen any one move that fast with a basket ball or challenge the rest of the league the way he did.
Off the NBA court these past 3 seasons Iverson unfortunately has become a story that is all too common.
It’s been reported he has run through almost the who $150 million dollars he earned during his time in The NBA.
Though he is not a unique story he arguably the most high profile player to date to loose his career, money, marriage all in a few years.
Here Are 5 Things We All Should have Learned Before
Iverson’s Problems. Words by Coach Curtis.
1. Develop Passions Beyond Sports-Many people love basket ball but none of them will succeed at the level that Iverson did. You have to have a motivation that excites you that is more about interactive skill than freakishly unique skill.
2.Learn To Live With In Your Budget-Who feels sorry for a grown man that burns $150 million in cash? NOBODY. Gold chains and flashy cars look like a good investment in your 20’s while cruising South Street. However when your South Street days are over and you have a family...insurance policies, one nice car and paid bills and taxes are better long term.
3.Prepare for Life After-Of course having a quick first step is a great gift from God. However, while you are learning to take advantage of those gifts you should pick up other talents like coaching or
commentating. Shaq, Charley Barkley and Kenny “The Jet” Smith have all found themselves new lives off the court.
4. Don’t Burn Bridges-When Iverson was doing the press conference about “Practice” he thought he was clowning Larry Brown. What he was doing really was making himself an un wanted future commodity with the rest of the NBA. I am sure A.I has some skills and even at 75% of what he was he could make a team. If a team wanted him.
5. It’s Never Too Late for a Second Act. George Forman to a bigger extend and Mike Tyson to a lesser extend are examples that you can start from the bottom again and still shine. The thing about being number one is that no one ever stays there and there’s no where higher to go. So find some joy in the numbers you occupy on the way...you will likely spend much more of your life not at number one.
